For Homeowners

Why an award
actually matters.

When you're hiring someone to renovate your home, you're trusting them with the largest investment most people own. An award is independent third-party validation — proof that this contractor has been vetted by people whose only job is to verify quality.

01
Independent Recognition

Awards aren't paid placements or sponsored ads. Winners are selected by an independent panel reviewing real projects, real reviews, and real client outcomes.

02
Vetted Beyond a Listing

Every nominee is already a Top Rated member — meaning they've passed an 8-point verification before they were even eligible. Awards are the next tier of trust.

03
Reduces Your Risk

Hiring an award-winning contractor isn't a guarantee — but it's the closest thing the industry has. It dramatically narrows your shortlist to people the market already trusts.

Look for the Crest

The mark of an
award winner. Look for it everywhere.

When you visit a contractor's website, look for The Contractor Awards crest. It's only awarded to winners — and it can't be bought, faked, or transferred. Each badge links directly back to the official winner page on contractorawards.ca, where you can verify it.

  • Year-stamped — every badge displays the year won, so it's always current
  • Verifiable — every badge links back to the official record
  • Independent — issued by The Contractor Awards, not by the contractor themselves
  • Unique — only one winner per category per year

How It Works

From nomination
to recognition.

A transparent annual process. Nominations open each January, judging takes place through the spring, and winners are announced at our annual ceremony in the fall.

1
Nominate

All Top Rated members are automatically eligible — no entry fees, no extra paperwork. Members can also be nominated by clients, peers, or industry partners through January and February.

2
Judge

An independent panel reviews submitted projects, verified reviews, completed credentials, and references. We evaluate craft, communication, and outcomes — not popularity contests.

3
Recognize

Winners are announced annually at our awards ceremony. They receive their badge for digital and print use, a winner's profile on contractorawards.ca, and PR support across our network.

Common Questions

Frequently asked.

Are The Contractor Awards independent?
Yes. While the program is operated by Top Rated and powered by The Marketing Depot, judging is conducted by an independent panel that includes industry experts, designers, and homeowner representatives. Winners are not paid placements, sponsored, or for sale.
Who can nominate a contractor?
Anyone — homeowners, peers, suppliers, industry partners. Top Rated members are also automatically considered. Self-nominations are reviewed equally to third-party nominations, but evidence (project photography, reviews, references) carries more weight than enthusiasm.
Why are only Top Rated members eligible?
Because awards only mean something if the field is already strong. Every Top Rated member has passed an 8-point verification before being listed — license, insurance, public reviews, references, and more. By restricting awards to this pool, we guarantee that every nominee is, at minimum, a vetted professional.
Can a contractor win multiple awards?
Yes. A single contractor can win in different categories — and many do. However, no contractor can win the same category in consecutive years, to keep the recognition fresh and ensure other excellent businesses get visibility.
As a homeowner, how do I know a badge is real?
Every official Contractor Awards badge links back to the winner's official profile on contractorawards.ca. Click the badge — if it doesn't take you to a verified winner page on this site, it's not genuine. We also maintain a public, searchable winner archive.
How is this different from other contractor awards?
Most contractor awards are pay-to-enter, popularity contests, or open marketplaces where anyone can submit themselves. The Contractor Awards has none of that — no entry fees, no public voting, no sponsored placements. The pool is curated, the judging is independent, and the bar is high.
